remember when you were young and relished in young adult romance novels where the boy and girl fall in love but then something tears them apart and the boy comes around begging for the girl back in his life with a grand gesture?
what happens when that becomes your life? would you still take him back like all those girls in those novels, in order to have a happy ending?
you dreamt of fairytales and a life full of love and romance. what kind of protagonist will you play in your own romantic comedy?
people always criticize when romantic comedies and romance novels end with a happy ending because it’s predictable. yet, when they end off with the couple not being together, they get upset. what if these movies are made because we know that in life it’s harder to choose these happy endings, so we might as well enjoy watching them happen to someone else. would you choose the predictable happy ending?
maybe we sometimes choose the happy ending because it’s easier. maybe we choose the happy ending because it’ll bring more happiness than choosing the alternative. and isn’t that the wager in life? choose the option that will bring you more happiness overall?
if that is the choice that we’re always making, then why is it so hard to determine which option is the one that will bring the most happiness? how will we ever know?
then maybe the choice isn’t to choose the one that will bring us the most happiness, it’s to choose the choice that we will not regret the most. which choice is the one that we won’t be regretting in a few years time?
